Minimally invasive techniques have been successfully utilized for many surgical procedures. Universally, adoption of minimally invasive techniques have resulted in safer surgeries, shorter operative times, less patient pain, faster recovery, decreased hospitalization times and costs, and have expanded eligible patient populations as risks of surgery are reduced for elderly and debilitated patients.

ThermalMethod™ technology represents a breakthrough in orthopaedic and spine surgery comparable to the percutaneous placement of cardiovascular stents via venous catheters in lieu of open heart surgery. This method utilizes the thermal properties of shape memory alloys to produce an ordered, sequential and reliable transition between physical forms of an implantable device. As such, it allows the surgeon to implant a device that is significantly larger than the access required to reach the surgical site.
Current designs require access to the intervertebral space that is of necessity larger than the implant. Additionally, these designs require a straight path through a rigid tube to the intervertebral disc space.
ThermaCage devices may be placed through much smaller access, typically through a 5mm flexible catheter that has a cross sectional area less than 20% of conventional methods. Furthermore, since the catheter is flexible, ThermalMethod technology opens an entire range of access pathways not possible using conventional surgical techniques.
